Turning over a new leaf

Sometimes things need a fresh start, which was especially true when my old platform started feeling more of a burden than a place of expression and public engagement. And the pressure to compete with journalistic peers also left me exhausted.

There’s only so much you can do without resources, career pedigree and networks.

However, this space on Blogger is my way of starting afresh – not from scratch but getting back to basics by, as Hemmingway puts it, opening my veins and letting myself bleed on the page, albeit an electronic one.

Also, I am not built for OnlyFans.

I have spent many years moving between journalism, publishing, consulting and the odd detour into places that do not always make sense on paper. What I have learned is that whatever you do in life, nothing beats lived experience, a spirit of inquiry and picking yourself up after being beaten down… literally and figuratively.

And no matter what else I did, there is still ink in my veins.

What will you find here

In a nutshell, things that have piqued my interest and how I see the world:

The serious stuff (#news) – news and current affairs, industry, resources and technology.

The not so serious stuff (#travel) – field notes and travel fragments that sit somewhere between reportage and reflection.

And those things somewhere in the middle (#life) – pop culture pieces, creative experiments, curated visuals and the occasional dive into odd corners of history.

Some posts will be polished. Others will feel like dispatches from the open road. All will be honest... and mostly true.

Thanks for stopping by

Whether you have followed my work before or have landed here for the first time – thanks for visiting and hope you enjoy what you read.

My Wordpress blog is still available and will now operate as an online portfolio of sorts. Feel free to check out some of my older reporting, some of which may appear on this new platform in some way, shape or form.

You can view it here.

To set the tone for this new endeavor, I will post three of my past articles to give the blog some initial content and traction, and showcase my capabilities.

The written word is what I do best and I have high hopes for where this space will lead to as I rediscover my voice and edge in the era of consumer surveillance, stupefying 'creative' slop and tech-enabled megalomania. What a time to be alive.

Correspondence can be done via email – themelancholicseeker@gmail.com. Please keep things civil.
